Trade unions play a crucial role in building coherence and accountability into 2030 Agenda implementation efforts. Through their own in-depth monitoring process at national level, they have focused on a number of priority thematic areas, as well as on the implementation process as a whole. By evaluating the implementation based on transparency, consultation and social dialogue, trade unions establish whether key requirements for an inclusive approach are being met. Based on this analysis, they provide specific recommendations to governments.
Ahead of the High-level Political Forum 2018, the central platform for reviewing SDG implementation, the TUDCN recently released, “A trade union take on the SDGs,” capturing the sector’s in-depth monitoring process at national level. The study is part the Workers and Trade Unions Major Group’s contribution to the review of Agenda 2030 implementation.
