CPDE’s newly elected Co-chairs, together with other members of its Steering Committee (SC) held a meeting in Paris last 15-16 June 2023, as part of its regular efforts to manage the platform’s governance and operations.
The Committee discussed the context in which the platform operates, marked by a waning interest in the effectiveness agenda. Recent reports, they explain, show that donors are missing targets on overall ODA quantity and quality levels, especially those going to countries that rely on ODA the most. In a time of multiple, interconnected crises, development financing and ODA resources are not enough to meet SDG financing needs, and suffer under immense strain of being pulled in many directions. Moreover, they noted that CSOs operate in a context of closing and shrinking civic spaces devoid of an enabling environment including adequate funding.
Amid these challenges, the Committee affirmed the relevance of the platform’s mandate. It has since conducted consultations and is gearing for further participatory processes to charter CPDE’s strategic directions. Furthermore, it has considered different scenarios, and made initial formulations to respond to them, and looks forward to involving the relevant structures in developing these further in the coming months.#
