MECHANICS
In 2022, the CSO Partnership for Development Effectiveness (CPDE) hosted the CPDE Unmet Gala: A civil society parade for equality and justice, as its action at the Global Partnership for Effective Development Cooperation High-Level Meeting (HLM3) in Geneva. A twist on the Met Gala, it makes a reference to unmet development effectiveness commitments towards sustainable development goals (SDGs). The Gala featured bespoke clothing designed by an artist collective from the global South, around the following messages on effective development cooperation, which were collectively deliberated by the civil society delegation led by CPDE:
NO EXCUSES, ACT FOR SDGs NOW.
BUSINESS-AS-USUAL IS A DEATH SENTENCE. NO TO STATUS QUO.
THERE IS NO PLANET B, PEOPLE OVER PROFIT.
CIVIL SOCIETY VOICES MATTER. STOP THE ATTACKS.
The ten (10) CPDE Unment Gala garments will be available for loan by civil society organisations, with CPDE members as priority, that wish to host their own, or hold an action where the messages are relevant. This includes protests, art exhibitions, and performances. Organisations are also strongly encouraged to add a garment that features local struggles related to development cooperation.
The garments will be shipped to the borrowing organisation, and costs will be shouldered by the CPDE Global Secretariat.
The borrowing organisation simply needs to send an Expression of Interest to CPDE Communications Manager Meg Yarcia (myarcia@csopartnership.org), with information about their proposed activity.
