Kenyan CSOs hold workshop on GPEDC 3MR

Thirty Kenyan national and sub-national CSOs working on education, gender, enabling environment, human rights, and governance among other sectors gathered for a workshop on the Global Partnership for Effective Development Co-operation (GPEDC) Third Monitoring Round (3MR) last November 5, 2018 in Nairobi, Kenya.

Convened by the Reality of Aid Africa Network, the event sought to collect the perspectives of CSOs on Indicator 2 of the global partnership monitoring framework. More specifically, it aimed to 1) give a chance to CSOs to respond to the questionnaire on CSO Enabling Environment; 2) inform CSOs on the monitoring exercise and its importance being conducted by government in collaboration with development partners and CSOs; and 3) discuss the way forward for CSOs to more effectively engage in monitoring.

The workshop was facilitated by Reality of Aid Africa Network’s Vitalice Meja, and Kenya National Treasury’s Aid Effectiveness Secretariat Head Monica Asuna. The National Treasury expressed the country’s commitment to the monitoring process, and stated that the report from the monitoring round will be shared to GPEDC. In the run-up to the event, it emerged that the GPEDC process had a limited scope for monitoring. In response, CPDE let CSOs identify other indicators that are of special interest to them, and developed a corresponding tool featuring said indicators.#
