13-16 September 2018 | Paris, France

Members of CSO Partnership for Development Effectiveness (CPDE) convened in Paris for the Advocacy and Policy Committee (APC) Core group meeting held last September 13 to 14 and the 2-day Strategic Plan (SP) Review meeting from September 15 to 16.

These meetings are important steps in the Strategic Review process that designs the CPDE’s direction. Leading the delegation are CPDE Co-Chairs together with APC Core Group members, SP Task Force members, and the Global Secretariat.

Back-to-back meetings were successfully held through the facilitation of our external consultant, Mink’a, an independent group of experts, committed to empowering social movements and civil society organizations. Minká have previously worked with CPDE on the conduct of Power Mapping Exercise on priority Strategic Advocacy Areas in 2016.

The APC meeting is a venue to: process the results of the literature review and power map; review CPDE’s engagement with other arenas; and recommend advocacy message for the platform. This is a step in the Strategic Review process of CPDE.

The objectives of the meeting are the following:

  • Analyse CPDE’s external environment, particularly looking into engagement arenas, and actors and alliances relevant to development cooperation discourse; and

  • Define the platform’s strategic goals, and develop advocacy messages and CSO key asks based on the SP.

The discussions in the APC meeting were essential and were used for the SP Review meeting as it mainly tackled the organizational challenge of CPDE and assessed the platform’s work and relevance. The objectives SP Review meeting are the following:

  • Assess progress in meeting CPDE strategic objectives and evaluate adequacy of the platform’s organisational complement; and

  • Suggest appropriate improvement in the SP, wherever applicable based on analysis of external environment, progress in CPDE strategic objectives and goals etc.

Finally, the results and recommendations of these meetings will be again discussed in the upcoming Coordination Committee meeting this November.
