The CSO Effectiveness Awareness Check
Dear CSO Representative,
In 2010 and 2011, two documents that aim to guide CSO development effectiveness and accountability were endorsed by more than 100 CSOs around the globe. These documents, the Istanbul Principles for CSO Development Effectiveness and the International Framework for CSO Development Effectiveness (or Siem Reap Consensus 2011) are a result of global, regional, and national level consultations among CSOs on what are the principles that will guide their own effectiveness and shape their own accountability. CSOs have devoted significant time and effort to improve their own development effectiveness and accountability since the adoption and endorsement of these two landmark documents. They have made strides in realizing these principles into actual practice despite major challenges with the diminishing CSO enabling environment at the global, regional, and national levels.
The CSO Effectiveness Awareness Check is an initiative by the Working Group on CSO Development Effectiveness (CSO DE WG) of the CSO Partnership for Development Effectiveness (CPDE) to help CSOs around the globe to check their progress in implementing the principles for CSO development effectiveness and accountability. By answering this test, CSOs are contributing to building evidence on CSOs’ commitment to further improve their own development effectiveness and accountability in the face of great challenges to serve the people.
